FAQ
How do you translate InDesign files without losing layout formatting?
SimplifyAI parses the Story Tree of INDD files in the cloud and converts styles like bold and color into safe tags. After AI translation, the system automatically writes the translation back in place, fully preserving the original text frames and layout.
What if translated text becomes longer and causes overset text in InDesign?
The system includes built-in layout compensation. When it detects text overflow caused by a target language such as German or Russian, it automatically fine-tunes character spacing, line spacing, and font size to remove overset text.
Can translators who don't know InDesign use your tool?
Yes. After uploading your file, select "Bilingual export". The system will generate an Excel file with format-protection tags. Once the translator fills in the translations, upload it again to rebuild a fully laid-out INDD in one click.
Which versions of InDesign files does SimplifyAI support? Do I need to install any software?
No Adobe InDesign installation required. We support all versions of .indd files from InDesign CS4 (INDD 7) to 2024 (INDD 19), as well as .idml format. Processing runs in the cloud, and you can download or preview a high-resolution PDF when it's done.
Can I configure a professional industry glossary before translation?
Yes. The system includes built-in pre-translate analysis, which automatically extracts high-frequency terms and proper nouns from the document. Before translation, you can review them and configure the glossary to ensure consistency throughout the document.
Will layout shift when translating into right-to-left languages such as Arabic?
No. The system includes a built-in RTL auto-mirroring engine. When the target language is Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, or another RTL language, it automatically flips text frames and element alignment after translation, with no manual re-layout needed.
Will translating long documents over 100 pages cause a timeout error?
No. The backend uses a distributed asynchronous processing architecture that automatically splits large documents for parallel processing (fan-out), avoiding LLM token limits and network timeouts, and supporting seamless translation of hundred-megabyte long documents.
